Artwork: 6th Grade Portraits
Ana O'Keefe is an artist and educator whose work serves to celebrate culture and community. As Texas and New York State certified art teacher for grades K-12, she has experience teaching at all grade levels since receiving a BS in Studio Art and Anthropology, and an MA in Art Education from New York University in 2008. Her graduate program’s focus in contemporary art, critical pedagogy, and social activism led her to develop a deep connection to community arts. From 2008-2010 she volunteered for the Peace Corps as a youth development worker. Back in NYC from 2010-2014, she sought out public schools aligned with community-based organizations, and worked with the Brooklyn-based muralist collective, Los Muralistas under the direction of Joe Matunis at El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice. In 2014, she moved to Antigua, Guatemala in order to become better acquainted with the art and culture of her heritage. She collaborated with local artists and developed curriculum for the K-12 classes at Antigua International School, where she taught for two years. In 2016 Ana relocated to Austin, Texas and is now teaching at McCallum Fine Arts Academy High School.
